MIXED AGES AND ABILITIES TEAM SLAM (presented by LTA, Great Britain)
What is a Mixed Age Group Team Slam?
A ‘turn up and play,’ 2 team competition that brings together players of all ages at the club. Players are put on the team sheet in order of ability and each player plays 1 singles and 1 doubles match.
Organiser tips
COURTS AND PLAYERS: Have 2 teams of at least 4 players with a court for every 4 players. Write the name of each player on the scoresheet, start with the best player and work down – eg Numbers 1&2 are male 1st team players, Numbers 3&4 are ladies 1st team, Numbers 5&6 are Under 12 team players.
If some players are younger or of lower ability you can use green or orange balls with them and full, yellow balls with the stronger players.
SCORING: Choose a scoring format. Tiebreaks to 7 or 10 works best. When a player finishes a match they write their scores on the scoresheet.
SCORESHEETS: Fill in the scoresheet with player names, who wins and the match score.
Activity
ORDER OF PLAY: Follow the scoresheet for the Order of Play, the doubles matches may be delayed if players needed are playing their singles, if so just put on court the next match on the list.
AT THE END: Add up the number of match wins each team has. The team with the most wins is the winner. If there is a tie, the team with the most points won is the winner.
Adapt the Format
Many formats can easily be adapted to suit players aged under 10, mixed ages, teams and to be a more or less competitive event.
Download ‘ADAPTING COMPETITION’ for a quick and easy guide to adapting this format to suit your needs.
Themes
Many competitions are more fun and easier to promote if they have a theme such as Davis Cup, Olympics or Family Day attached.
